Biomedical Data Analysis Paper Presented in Granada

Biomedical Data Analysis
MIUC professor Daniel Urda recently published and presented a paper at the 5th International Work-Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering held in Granada from 26th-28th of April.

This conference brought together experts from several fields, such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, biology, bioinformatics, and biomedicine, and provided a discussion forum for scientists, engineers, educators and students about the latest ideas and new tools, techniques and resources in the foundations, as well as theory, models and applications for this multidisciplinary environment.

Dr. Urda presented a machine learning model which incorporates prior biological knowledge from the data domain to improve both the prediction accuracy and the robustness of the genetic signatures, since the data analyzed consisted of DNA RNA-Seq gene expression profiles of patients with breast cancer.

Of the 122 papers presented, which were carefully reviewed and selected from 309 submissions, this work was selected by the organizational committee as one of the best papers in the conference and proposed it be extended and submitted to a special issue of the international journal BMC Systems Biology.

MIUC extends their congratulations to Dr. Urda for his work and for his recognition at this conference, which will surely lead to establishing new contacts for further collaborations.
